General Dentistry

General dentistry includes all the services you and your family need to maintain healthy smiles. Our goal is to help you avoid cavities and gum disease and offer services to fix your teeth if something goes wrong.

At Hawaiian Island Dental, our services include:

  • Dental exams and teeth cleanings
  • Tooth-colored fillings
  • Dental crowns
  • Gum disease treatment
  • Bridges and partials
  • Root canals
  • Tooth extractions

Dental Exams and Teeth Cleanings

Dental exams and cleanings top the list because they allow us to find cavities and gum disease when they’re small and easy to treat. Scheduling these services every six months spares you the discomfort of toothaches and inconvenient emergency trips to the dentist.

If our dental hygienist finds that you have gum disease, they will create an individualized treatment plan to treat it.

Catching and treating these problems early can also help you avoid the cost of more complex treatment in the future.

Tooth Fillings, Crowns, and Bridges

If you have a cavity or broken or missing tooth, Dr. Jaurequi offers services to restore your oral health and give you back your confident smile.

  • Tooth fillings: If you get a cavity, our dentist removes the decay and fills the tooth with a natural-looking tooth-colored filling.
  • Dental crowns: If a tooth is broken or has a cavity that’s too large for a filling, Dr. Jaurequi might recommend a crown to support and protect it.
  • Bridges and dental implants: Missing teeth should be replaced as soon as possible. If you need tooth replacement, we offer bridges, partial dentures, and dental implants.

Root Canals for Infected Teeth

If bacteria find a way inside a tooth through a crack or a cavity, you can develop a painful root infection or abscess. A root canal is the only procedure that will relieve your pain, remove the infection, and save the tooth from extraction.

Comfortable Tooth Extraction

Dr. Jaurequi only recommends extraction if a tooth is damaged or decayed beyond what a filling, crown, or root canal can restore. Rest assured, we will make your procedure as efficient, comfortable, and stress-free as possible.

We are also pleased to offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to help you relax throughout your appointment.

Approximate Times for Procedures

Your dental needs are unique, so it's not possible to say exactly how long your procedure will take until we see you; however, this is how much time we typically reserve for procedures:

Meet Our Doctor:

Randall Jaurequi DDS

Dr Jaurequi, or Dr “J” as he is affectionately called by his support staff and patients, has been providing dental care to Kauai’s families since 2000.

As a youngster growing up and surfing in Southern California, he always dreamed of one day surfing and living in Hawaii. At the age of fifteen, his dream came true when he was introduced to a kama’aina (local) family from Kaneohe, Oahu who became his hanai (adopted) parents. He knew early on that he wanted to help people as he had seen the work of ...

General Dentistry Technology

Intraoral Camera

An intraoral camera is a small device about the size of a pen that our dentist uses to look at the inside of your mouth during your dental exams. As Dr. Jaurequi moves it around, the images of your mouth are instantly available on your chairside screen so you can follow along. He can show you the condition of your teeth as well as dental work like fillings and crowns.

If he spots a cavity or sees signs of gum disease, he’ll point it out to you so you can see it with your own eyes. Feeling informed and understanding what’s happening helps you feel more confident in the decisions you make about your dental care.

We can also save still images of your intraoral exam for future reference to easily share with specialists and insurance companies.
