Comprehensive Dental Services for All Ages

General Dentistry at Hawaiian Island Dental covers the everyday care your ʻohana needs to keep cavities, gum disease, and dental emergencies at bay.

Dr. Jaurequi treats patients of all ages, from young children getting their first cleaning to seniors maintaining lifelong smiles. With decades of experience, he handles routine care and more involved restorative work under one roof.

Our general dentistry services include:

  • Dental exams and teeth cleanings
  • Tooth-colored fillings
  • Dental crowns
  • Bridges and partials
  • Dental implants
  • Root canals
  • Tooth extractions
  • Gum disease treatment
  • Emergency dentistry

Families across Kauai appreciate having a single dental home where parents and children can be seen by a dentist who already knows them. That continuity matters when life gets busy between school drop-offs in Lihue, work commutes from Kapaa, and weekends out toward Poipu or Hanalei.

If a tooth is damaged beyond what a filling can fix, Dr. Jaurequi may recommend a crown or Dental Crowns Bridges Lihue treatment to rebuild strength and appearance. When a tooth can't be saved, our Tooth Extraction Lihue service is handled gently and efficiently, with nitrous oxide available for added comfort.

Preventive Care That Keeps Kauai Families Smiling

Dental exams and cleanings every six months are the simplest way to avoid cavities, gum disease, and surprise toothaches during a workweek or family vacation.

During your checkup, our hygienist cleans away plaque and tartar, then Dr. Jaurequi reviews the health of your teeth and gums. If gum disease is detected, we build an individualized treatment plan — including scaling and root planing when needed — to stop it before it progresses.

Watch for these early warning signs of gum disease:

  • Swollen, tender, or puffy gums
  • Bleeding when you brush
  • Receding gums
  • Chronic bad breath
  • Loose-feeling teeth

Catching issues early spares you discomfort and the higher cost of complex treatment later.

Schedule your next cleaning and exam at our Lihue office today.

Routine visits are the foundation of long-term oral health for keiki and adults alike.

Restorative Dentistry: Fillings, Crowns, and Bridges

When something does go wrong, Dr. Jaurequi restores teeth so you can chew, speak, and smile with confidence again.

Tooth-colored fillings. If you get a cavity, decay is removed and the tooth is filled with a natural-looking material that blends in seamlessly.

Dental crowns. A crown supports a tooth that's broken, has a large cavity, has been filled multiple times, or has had a root canal. Crowns also restore dental implants and anchor bridges.

Bridges. When one or two teeth in a row are missing, a custom bridge fills the gap. The artificial tooth is held in place by crowns attached to the adjacent teeth.

The process is straightforward. Dr. Jaurequi prepares the tooth, takes impressions, and a custom dental lab fabricates your restoration. When it's ready, you return to have it adjusted and securely cemented in place.

With good home care and regular checkups, well-made dental work can serve you for many years.

Root Canals and Comfortable Extractions

If bacteria reach the inside of a tooth through a deep cavity or crack, a painful infection or abscess can develop. A root canal removes the infection, relieves pain, and saves the tooth from extraction.

When a tooth is too damaged or decayed to restore, Dr. Jaurequi performs extractions as efficiently and comfortably as possible. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is available to help you stay relaxed throughout your appointment.

Advanced Digital Dental Technology

Digital dentistry improves nearly every part of your visit — from diagnosis to comfort to treatment accuracy.

Digital x-rays capture detailed images of your teeth and jaw while reducing radiation exposure by as much as 80 percent compared to film x-rays. They also help Dr. Jaurequi spot cavities and gum disease early.

Intraoral cameras let Dr. Jaurequi show you exactly what he sees inside your mouth on a chairside screen. When you can see a cavity or area of concern with your own eyes, decisions about treatment feel clearer and less stressful.

3-D cone beam imaging supports precise diagnostics and treatment planning for more complex cases.

Digital impressions replace the old goopy trays with a comfortable, accurate scan — a small change that makes a big difference if you've ever dreaded impressions in the past.

Dr. Jaurequi continually invests in continuing education so he can bring the technologies that genuinely benefit patients into the practice.

Randall Jaurequi DDS

Dr Jaurequi, or Dr “J” as he is affectionately called by his support staff and patients, has been providing dental care to Kauai’s families since 2000.

As a youngster growing up and surfing in Southern California, he always dreamed of one day surfing and living in Hawaii. At the age of fifteen, his dream came true when he was introduced to a kama’aina (local) family from Kaneohe, Oahu who became his hanai (adopted) parents. He knew early on that he wanted to help people as he had seen the work of ...

Intraoral Camera

An intraoral camera is a small device about the size of a pen that our dentist uses to look at the inside of your mouth during your dental exams. As Dr. Jaurequi moves it around, the images of your mouth are instantly available on your chairside screen so you can follow along. He can show you the condition of your teeth as well as dental work like fillings and crowns.

If he spots a cavity or sees signs of gum disease, he’ll point it out to you so you can see it with your own eyes. Feeling informed and understanding what’s happening helps you feel more confident in the decisions you make about your dental care.

We can also save still images of your intraoral exam for future reference to easily share with specialists and insurance companies.
