Long-Term Tooth Replacement with Dental Implants

A dental implant is a unique tooth replacement because it's placed in your jaw and can last a lifetime if you take excellent care of your oral health.

Others solutions like fixed bridges and partial dentures effectively restore function and appearance but are designed to sit on top of the gums. Since dental implants are embedded in bone, they become as stable and secure as your natural tooth root was.

Who Should Get a Dental Implant?

If you have one or more missing teeth, you may be a good candidate for a tooth implant. The first step is to schedule an appointment with Dr. Jaurequi, our Lihue dental implant dentist.

He will take digital x-rays of your jaw, perform a thorough oral health evaluation, and determine if you can get an implant. There are no age restrictions, and the only requirement is that there is enough dense bone in your jaw to place the implant securely.

What’s the Process Like for Getting an Implant?

At Hawaiian Island Dental, Dr. Jaurequi uses leading-edge 3-D cone beam imaging to plan the placement of your tooth implant in your jaw. This is a crucial step, as the implant must be placed in precisely the right spot to ensure that it is stable and bonds successfully with the bone around it.

Using 3-D cone beam technology helps ensure the precision placement of your implant for the best long-term outcomes. Once the implant is placed successfully, we need to wait for several months for it to heal.

During the healing period, the implant integrates and fuses with bone and tissue in your jaw. When it is fully integrated, it becomes a part of your dental structure, just as the lost tooth root was.

Benefits of Choosing Dental Implants

There are numerous benefits to choosing dental implants for tooth replacement, and we recommend them because they:

  • Look, act, and function like a natural tooth
  • Last a lifetime when cared for properly
  • Prevent jawbone deterioration
  • Are a standalone tooth replacement that doesn’t involve other teeth
  • Restore full chewing function so you can eat what you want
  • Create a fuller, more youthful facial appearance
  • Replace a single tooth or multiple teeth with dentures
  • Provide a stable base to hold dentures and partials securely in place

When you look at all the benefits of choosing dental implants in Lihue, HI, you can see why dentists consider them the gold standard for tooth replacement!

Dr Jaurequi, or Dr “J” as he is affectionately called by his support staff and patients, has been providing dental care to Kauai’s families since 2000.

As a youngster growing up and surfing in Southern California, he always dreamed of one day surfing and living in Hawaii. At the age of fifteen, his dream came true when he was introduced to a kama’aina (local) family from Kaneohe, Oahu who became his hanai (adopted) parents. He knew early on that he wanted to help people as he had seen the work of ...

3-D Cone Beam Imaging (CBCT)

3-D cone beam imaging is a special type of x-ray Dr. Jaurequi uses when he needs details not available with other types of x-rays. Cone beam imaging generates 3-D images of your teeth, soft tissue, bones, and the structures around them, including the nasal cavity, sinuses, and nerve paths. It's called "cone beam" because the x-ray is shaped like a cone and not a fan as are other CT scans.

Because he can see this area in great detail, Dr. Jaurequi 3-D cone beam images to plan highly precise dental implant placement, orthodontic treatment, tooth extraction, and other dental procedures.
